Concepción is a Chilean commune and city belonging to the Greater Concepción metropolitan area, and is the capital of the homonymous province and the Biobío Region. The urban center of Concepción has a significant impact on national trade as it is part of the most industrialized region in the country. It limits to the north with Hualpén, Talcahuano and Penco; to the south with Chiguayante and Hualqui; to the east with the commune of Florida and to the west with the Biobío River and the communes of San Pedro de la Paz, Coronel and Lota. Formerly it was located in the Bahía de Concepción, in the territory currently occupied by the town of Penco, its name, "penquista", derives from its first location.
